Pound-For-Pound rankings were established to determine if a fighter, who is paramount in his weight class, is also superior when compared to other fighters atop their own respective weight divisions. How did I formulate these current rankings? It is comprised of careful observation, analysis and evaluation through the years on four specific criteria.
1) Quality of Opposition - What level of competition has each fighter faced?
2) Performance Level - How did the fighter fare against the various styles he encountered?
3) Age - Did the fighter defeat his opponents while they were in the prime of their careers?
4) Significance of a Loss - If a fighter lost, how did he lose? Was it via decision or knockout? Did he sustain a loss at the hands of high-quality competition? Was he at the peak of his career when he suffered a defeat?

Junior lightweight Jose Pedraza (2-0, 2 KO's) made a successful U.S.A. professional debut at the BB King Blues Club and Grill, stopping Corben Page (1-2) at 2:25 of the first round.
Pedraza displayed excellent balance and coordination, as well as an abundance of future-star qualities. He overwhelmed Page with his hand speed and power, dropping the Oregon native with a quick right-hand shot in the beginning of the round. Page got up, but was met with blistering combinations from the Puerto Rican sensation. Once again, Pedraza put Page on the canvas with a short right cross. At this point, Page's face was badly bruised and he was trapped in the corner. Referee Joe Cusano finally stopped the bout after Pedraza unloaded another barrage of punches to Page's head and body.
In the co-main event, Darnell Boone (18-17-3, 7 KO's) upset previously unbeaten Willie Monroe, Jr. (10-1, 4 KO's), capturing an eight-round split decision victory. Official scores were 78-73 and 77-74 for Boone, and 76-75 for Monroe.
Monroe, a southpaw, appeared to win the first two rounds using his right jab and superior lateral movement. However, Boone came on strong in the third round, connecting with an overhand right and many shots to the body. At times, Monroe's back was against the ropes, as Boone smothered his punches.
Monroe kept Boone away in round four behind his jab and slick movement, although he had trouble in round five. Boone stalked him all over the ring, landing a left hook that floored Monroe, but it was ruled a slip by the referee. Boone aggressively attacked and scored with shots to Monroe's body.
In the sixth round, Boone applied heavy pressure, but Monroe kept him turning.
Boone did very well in the seventh round, as Monroe stood in front of him too long at times without unleashing many punches.
Finally, Boone caught Monroe in the eighth round with a firm right-hand shot, sending the Rochester, New York native to the canvas.
Light heavyweight Seanie Monaghan (7-0, 4 KO's) put together another crowd-pleasing performance, winning a four-round unanimous decision against Michael Glenn (2-3, 1 KO). All three judges scored the contest 40-36 for Monaghan.
Although the official scores were one-sided, Monaghan went blow-for-blow with Glenn throughout the entire bout. Monaghan showed tremendous endurance, and his large volume of body punching slowly wore Glenn down.
Super middleweight prospect Travis Peterkin of Brooklyn, NY (2-0, 2 KO's) stopped Abdellah Smith (1-2, 1 KO) of Queens, NY at 2:33 of round one. Peterkin, a southpaw, hurt Smith with several straight-left bombs and vicious right hooks until the bout was halted.
Scott Burrell (3-0, 2 KO's) won a four-round unanimous decision over a tough Jemell Tyson (0-1-1) in a lightweight contest. Official scores were 39-37 and 40-36 twice.
Tyson was very competitive in round one, but Burrell landed multiple right crosses, leaving Tyson slightly staggering, as he walked back to his corner at the end of the round.
In round two, Burrell controlled the action with his devastating right-hand punches, although Tyson fought better in the middle of the round, scoring with fierce left uppercuts to Burrell's body.
It was quite apparent by round three that Burrell was the sharper puncher, and his shots were inflicting a lot of damage. Yet, Tyson fought well in the fourth round. Tyson cut Burrell's right eye with a series of straight lefts, and totally outworked him in the final round, but came up short on the judges' scorecards.
Junior middleweight Delen Parsley (5-0, 2 KO's) remained unbeaten, capturing a six-round unanimous decision over a fearless David Lopez (3-5, 3 KO's). Official scores were 58-56 and 59-55 twice.
Parsley, who prefers counter-punching over pressing his opponents, was the aggressor during the first two rounds. He successfully landed his right-hand shots during the first six minutes of action.
In round three, Lopez tried to catch Parsley with a lunging left hand, but missed widely. Suddenly, Lopez stepped up the pace. Parsley responded by tagging Lopez with a sharp left jab, and landing a thunderous left hook to the body.
Lopez got to Parsley in round four, exploding with a multitude of punches. Lopez, a southpaw, connected with several straight lefts and right hooks to Parsley's body.
Parsley controlled range in round five, although Lopez came on with wide punches toward the end of the round.
Once again, Lopez charged forward in round six, but was hesitant at times to let his hands go due to Parsley's hand speed.
Junior welterweight Gabriel DuLuc (1-0) won his professional debut over Joal Alarcon (0-2) by a four-round unanimous decision. All three judges scored the fight 40-35.
DuLuc, a Dorchester, Massachusetts native, sent Alarcon down in the first round with a thunderous right cross. From there, he dominated the round with right crosses and left hooks in succession.
DuLuc punished Alarcon with body shots in round two, and used lateral movement to frustrate him.
In rounds three and four, Alarcon's punch output steadily dropped, letting DuLuc coast to his first career victory.
JAMES KIRKLAND'S RETURN CONTINUES ON APRIL 9: KNOCKOUT KING FACES FORMER WORLD CHAMPION NOBUHIRO ISHIDA ON "ACTION HEROES" PAY-PER-VIEW EVENT FROM THE MGM GRAND GARDEN ARENA
LOS ANGELES, March 30 - After scoring two spectacular knockout wins in his return to the ring following a nearly two year absence, James "Mandingo Warrior" Kirkland has picked up where he left off...dominating his opponents. On the April 9 "Action Heroes" pay-per-view event at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, the knockout artist will continue his highly anticipated comeback against former Junior Middleweight World Champion Nobuhiro Ishida.
When James Kirkland (27-0, 24 KO's) is on a fight card, boxing fans know what they're in for, and it's usually a spectacular knockout. That's what they got on March 5 of this year when the Austin, Texas native who now lives and trains in Las Vegas returned to the ring and stopped Ashandi Gibbs in just 34 seconds. Just 13 days later, Kirkland struck again, this time dispatching Jhon Berrio in less than two rounds. The 27-year-old southpaw expects to get more work against Ishida, but with the dynamite Kirkland packs in his fists, it's advisable to stay in your seat for this one.
Owner of the interim WBA Junior Middleweight World Title for over a year from 2009 to 2010, 35-year-old Nobuhiro Ishida (22-6-2, 7 KO's) is a veteran who has the ability to show a young fighter like Kirkland some things he's never seen in the ring before. The Osaka, Japan native is a proud warrior who has never been stopped in his nearly 11-year professional career and is unbeaten in 12 of his last 13 bouts. In his last fight, Ishida lost a narrow split decision in a tough battle with Rigoberto "El EspaƱol" Alvarez, Canelo Alvarez's brother, and is looking forward to getting back on track in his United States debut on April 9.
"Action Heroes," featuring Erik Morales vs. Marcos Maidana in a 12-round junior welterweight bout, Robert Guerrero vs. Michael Katsidis in a 12-round bout for the vacant WBA and WBO Interim Lightweight Championships, James Kirkland vs. Nobuhiro Ishida in an 8-round middleweight bout and Paul Malignaggi vs. Jose Miguel Cotto in a 10-round welterweight bout, is presented by Golden Boy Promotions in association with Erik Morales' Box Latino and Universum Box Promotions and sponsored by Cerveza Tecate, AT&T, DeWalt Tools and Tres Generaciones Tequila. Guerrero vs. Katsidis is presented in association with Sampson Boxing. The bouts will be produced and distributed live on HBO Pay-Per-View® beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET/6:00 p.m. PT.

STAR BOXING RETURNS TO MOHEGAN SUN APRIL 22ND ON ESPN'S "FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS"
"We are excited to be returning to Mohegan Sun, with what promises to be an exciting double-header," stated Joe DeGuardia, CEO of Star Boxing, and promoter of Jargal and Andrade. "At Star Boxing we always look to make the best possible fights for the fans, and we feel April 22nd will be no different. You have one of the hottest prospects in all of boxing opening up the show, and Jargal and Prescott are both all-action fighters which is sure to produce fireworks. We are also looking to to pack the undercard with exciting local talent that will make it an entertaining and exciting show from top to bottom."
"Friday Night Fights and Mohegan Sun go hand-in-hand when it comes to providing a memorable night of action and competition," said Tom Cantone, Vice President of Sports and Entertainment at Mohegan Sun. "The relationship we've sustained throughout the years has provided boxing fans with entertainment and allows the region's premiere fighters to showcase their talents."
Jargal (15-1-3, 10KO's) who represented his native Mongolia at the 2004 World Games, is coming off his lone defeat as a pro, a very close, controversial split decision to Steve Chambers (23-1-1). Prescott, (23-3, 19KO's) who is ranked #11 by the WBA, began his career knocking out seventeen of the first eighteen opponents he faced. Prescott shocked the boxing world when he completely annihilated current WBA jr. welterweight champion, Amir Khan, knocking him out in the first round when the two met in 2008. Prescott has since all but begged Khan to step back into the ring with him, and get a shot at Khan's world title, but Khan refuses to fight the man who knocked him out. A win over "Khanqueror" Prescott would immediately throw Jargal into the mix of the loaded jr. welterweight division.
For Andrade (12-0, 8KO's), who along with representing the US in the 2008 Olympics, was the 2007 Amateur World Champion, it will mark the seventh time in just thirteen fights as a pro that the young star will be featured on ESPN. The 23-year-old southpaw, has continued to impress each time he steps in the ring, and is coming off a dominating eight round unanimous decision over another once beaten prospect Alberto Herrera (7-1-1) on ESPN in his last fight.
Bell (8-1, 5KO's) bounced back nice in 2010, (after suffering his first loss as a pro in 2008,) picking up two victories, including a shut-out win in his last fight against previously undefeated Quinton Willis. Bell's has a very exciting non-stop, high output punching style which will make for a very entertaining fight against the highly regarded Andrade.
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling Ticketmaster at 1 (800) 745-3000 or visiting www.ticketmaster.com. Tickets can also be purchased by calling the Star Boxing office at (718) 823-2000 or visiting www.starboxing.com. Tickets are also available for purchase at the Mohegan Sun Box Office. Tickets are priced at $80, $50 and $35. ESPN will begin live coverage of the event starting at 8PM ET.
