Hector Camacho Jr. Looks to Avenge Father’s Loss to Saul Duran April 8

Next Friday night, April 8, in Atlanta, Middleweight boxer Hector Camacho Jr. will look to avenge his father’s loss against Saul Duran. Hector “Macho” Camacho—a boxing legend with multiple championships—fought Duran at the tail end of his career last May and was defeated in 10 rounds, ending his incredible career with a record of 79-6-3.

This fight is not only about Camacho Jr. getting revenge and evening the playing field against Duran, but to also win to keep his hopes of getting another championship fight later this year.

“Of course I want to get out there and avenge my father’s loss,” said Camacho Jr. about fighting Duran. “But at the end of the day it is about getting the ‘W’ and working towards a title fight.”

Last year Camacho Jr. fought David Lemieux for the WBC International middleweight title and was defeated. Since, he has rebounded with a win over Juan Astorga, and looks to make an impact in his fight against Duran to make a bid for an upcoming title shot.

“Losing that championship fight in October really irks me, and I have been using it as motivation for getting ready for these upcoming fights,” said Camacho Jr. “I need to continue to win, and if I can land a huge fight by September or October then I’ll be right on point with my game plan.”

Camacho Jr. is adamant about staying active in upcoming months in preparation for a possible championship fight.

“After the bout with Duran I want to line up at least two more fights between now and the summer, and keep working hard to get to the top.”

When Camacho Jr. is not training he donates a large part of his time to working with inner city kids and is a Board Member for the nonprofit organization Find A Dream.

“I came from where a lot of these kids are coming from, and boxing was my way out,” said Camacho Jr. “Find A Dream is doing a great thing working with youth in communities throughout America. When kids don’t have a mentor or have direction, it is easy for them to stray of the path and get involved in drugs or gangs. But having an outlet like Find A Dream will help them stay on track and give them something to work for.”

Camacho Jr. will go to battle with Saul Duran Friday, April 8 at the North Atlanta Trade Center in Norcross, Georgia.

JESSE BRINKLEY VS. PETER QUILLIN PRESS CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS

April 1st, 2011. Reno -- A press conference was held at the Eldorado Hotel Casino on Tuesday afternoon for the highly anticipated April 29th super-middleweight bout between Yerington, NV’s Jesse Brinkley (35-6, 22 KOs) and Brooklyn, NY’s Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin (23-0, 17 KOs).

Jesse Brinkley discussed what this fight means to him in the wake of his loss against IBF super-middleweight champion, Lucian Bute.

“I never thought I would be back here without the world title. Let’s just start out by saying that the loss was a disappointment to me. I haven’t gotten over that loss.”

“I want to be back to the world championship level. I want to fight for another world title. I’m here to fight Peter Quillin because I believe he is the type of fighter that if you beat him you are right back at the HBO/Showtime level.”

“After the fight with Lucian, I have a lot of questions that need to be answered. I need to know what it is like to go to war again with a young lion.”

Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin focused on the fact that this fight is a big step up in his career.

“Come April 29th, you’re going to see Kid Chocolate and Jesse Brinkley get it on. You have to take opportunities when they come. I want the world to see me as a bona fide champion.”

“I know Jesse is going to be tough. I want to be 24-0 after this fight. If the knockout comes, then I will go home with a big knockout, but if not, I will settle for a big win.”

“This is a great fight for boxing fans.” Says Robert Diaz, matchmaker for Golden Boy Promotions. “We have high expectations for Peter Quillin, and we think that his style matches up perfectly to beat Jesse Brinkley.”

Let’s Get It On Promotions’ Tommy Lane spoke in more detail about the main event.

“After the Bute fight in the dressing room, Jesse came to Terry and me and asked ‘When can we go back and rock Reno?’”

“Its a fight that Jesse can win, and should win. But it’s the type of fight where each guy is the gate-keeper to the other’s career. It is a fight that is very consequential.”

Let’s Get It On Promotions’ Terry Lane, discussed how this card is a kick off to the Cinco De Mayo celebration.

“We invite the Mexican and Mexican-American community to this fight on April 29th to help begin their Cinco De Mayo festivities. Boxing is so entrenched in the Mexican culture.”

Continuing with the Cinco De Mayo theme, undercard details were announced at Tuesday’s press conference. Returning to fight in Northern Nevada for the third time is “El Negro Mexicano” “Lightning” Lonnie Smith (12-2-2) from Las Vegas, NV. Smith will fight in a six round bout. It was also announced that decorated amateur “Chuy” Elizondo from Carson City, NV will make his pro debut on the undercard. Undefeated super-middleweight Carlos Gaytan from Reno (2-0-1, 1 KO) will also be on the undercard in a four round bout.

What is being billed as a special attraction bout, former two-time University of Nevada, Reno collegiate welterweight boxing champion, Thomas Gennaro, will be making his pro debut on April 29th. Gennaro, who has thrived in a long standing Northern Nevada boxing tradition, is excited to be fighting as a professional.

“This has been something that has crawled inside me and I need to do. April 29th, I’m going to come out and let it shine.”

“I’m ready to get back in the ring in front of Reno and make this happen. I’m ready to rock!”

As a side note, and some fun boxing trivia, famed boxing writer Michael Marley once fought for the University of Nevada Boxing team. So did Mills Lane, who was the 1960 collegiate welterweight champion.

Brinkley vs. Quillin will be held at the Reno Events Center in Downtown Reno. The fight will be televised on Telefutura’s Solo Boxeo series. Check local listings. PHILADELPHIA (March 31, 2011)—On Friday night, April 15 Wilkes Productions presents “Salute to Philly Boxers” card that will take place at the New Palladium That is located at 229 West Allegheny Ave. in Philadelphia

The card is dubbed “Rumble Night in North Philly”

In the main event, undefeated Featherweight Coy “Pretty Boy” Evans will see action in the six round main event.

Evans of Philadelphia has a record of 10-0-1 with two wins coming by knockout.

Evans has is one of the top prospects in Philadelphia and has been stepping up the competition with each bout. Evans has been fighting opponents with significantly more experience yet Evans has come through with flying colors.

In his last bout, Evans scored a six round unanimous decision over Felipe Almanza (18-19-4) on January 28th in Philadelphia.

Also seeing action is the woman who many consider to be the top pound for pound female fighter in the world in Melissa “Hurracan” Hernandez.

The native of Bronx, NY has a record of 14-2-3 with five knockouts.

Hernandez has faced some of the top female fighters in the world and has captured the WIBA International Super Bantamweight title with a ten round unanimous decision over Lisa Brown (12-2-3)

Hernandez also captured the Global Boxing Union Lightweight title with a majority decision over Layla McCarter (23-12-5)

She added more hardware as she won the WIBA International Lightweight title with a unanimous decision over Victoria Cisneros.

She is coming off a four round stoppage over DJ Morrison on January 20th in Charlotte, NC

Rounding out the six round bouts will be Jr. Welterweight Edgar Santana.

Santana of New York has an impressive mark of 24-3 with fifteen knockouts and was considered one of the top prospects in the Jr. Welterweight division as he won twenty-one of his first twenty-three bouts as he had quality wins over Francisco Campos (20-5-1); Meacher Major (12-2-1).

This will be Santana’s first fight in three years and he is riding a three fight winning streak

In four round bouts, Kaseem Wilson, (12-2-1, 4 KO’s) of Philadelphia; Light Heavyweight Fred Jenkins Jr. (1-0, 1 KO) Heavyweight Mark Ridout (Pro Debut); Marvin Jones (2-0, 2 KO’s) of Tampa, Florida and Jr. Middleweight Glenwood Latimer (Pro Debut) will also see action against opponent to be announced.

SERRANO RETURNS HOME HEADLINES "UNFINISHED BUSINESS" TONIGHT IN PHILLY

Star Boxing's rising undefeated welterweight prospect from Philadelphia, Raymond "Tito" Serrano returns home for the first time in over two years when he takes on Corey Alarcon in the main event of "Unfinished Business" tonight at the South Philly Asylum Arena in Philadelphia, PA. The bout is promoted by Joe DeGuardia's Star Boxing and KEA Boxing Promotions.

The 21-year-old, Serrano (14-0, 7KO's) burst onto the scene in late 2007 scoring a first round TKO over Tierre King. Since then he has gradually begun to make the transition from prospect to up and coming contender. Serrano has been featured on ESPN's "Friday Night Fights" on two separate occasions, both times winning impressive eight round unanimous decisions (UD8 Jay Krupp 12-1, UD8 Ronald Warrior 13-2-1). Serrano picked up three wins in 2010, including an impressive eight round victory over current IBA Intercontinental Welterweight Champion Ayi Bruce in July (19-3, 12KO's) in July. Bruce holds a decision win over former top-rated welterweight Shamone Alvarez.

Alarcon is no pushover and has been in the ring with a number of top prospects including Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., Vernon Paris, Rocky Juarez, Chad Broussard, and Mike "No Joke" Stewart. Alarcon also owns a victory (DQ) over welterweight contender and soon to be world title challenger, "Vicious" Victor Ortiz.

Serrano and Alarcon (14-16-1, 4KO's) officially weighed-in minutes ago with Serrano tipping the scales at a ripped and ready 146lbs. and Alarcon weighing in at 147 1/2 lbs.
