Sergei Liakhovich Trains With Floyd Mayweather Sr.

Never one to sit idle, Sergei "The White Wolf" Liakhovich (25-4, 16 KO), trained with Floyd Mayweather Sr. in Las Vegas recently. The two seemingly diverse personalities found some common threads. They both love boxing and they both like to win just as much. Sergei is thirsty to learn more of the mental aspects of the sports, more finesse and footwork. Mayweather thinks he is just the guy to teach Sergei the "slick-ness" as he puts it. Sergei was pleased with the time he spent with Mayweather and said he will return to Las Vegas in about 2 weeks to continue training with Floyd Sr.

Sergei commented about training with Mayweather, "I am not the type of person that can just sit around and wait. I have to keep busy. I needed to get in the ring and train. I feel I must always learn. I have what it takes and with the right teacher I can win the championship again. You have to use your mind as well as your body. Floyd can teach me the tricks to take my power and use it as a lighter, smaller fighter would. I feel he (Mayweather) can take me to a new level."

Mayweather had this to say, "I see a lot of potential in Sergei. He's a tough guy. He just needs to fine tune and refine, I can help him do that. I can help him slip and slide, give him the footwork, the "slick-ness" he needs to outclass the big heavyweights out there today. I can demonstrate, so that he can dominate. We have just begun, once he really starts training with me you're gonna see a whole new Sergei."

During Liakhovich's heroic performance this past August against Robert Helenius (16-0, 11 KO) the fierce heavyweight warrior certainly proved that he is worthy of future championship challenges. In the early rounds of that gutsy and bloody battle the former Heavyweight Champion's nose was broken in two places but he continued to wage war in what would prove to be one of the most respect worthy, fan pleasing, boxing performances of the year.

An announcement for a fight in the first quarter of 2012 is expected to be made soon.

Beibut Shumenov & Promoter Part Ways

LAS VEGAS (November 1, 2011) - World Boxing Association ("WBA") and International Boxing Association ("IBA") light heavyweight World champion Beibut Shumenov andGoossen Tutor Promotions have settled their lawsuit and the disputes between them. They have agreed that their Promotional Contract is terminated and have amicably parted ways.

Shumenov (12-1, 8 KOs), a 2004 Kazakhstan Olympian, is promoted by Las Vegas-based KZ Event Productions, which is owned and operated by the Shumenov brothers, Beibut and Chingis.

"I want to fight the best to be considered the best 175 pounder in the world," Shumenov said. "I've heard that (Nathan) Cleverly, who won the WBO title after (Juergen) Braehmer was stripped, and (IBF champion Tavoris) Cloud have mentioned my name, but, truth be told, we have never been contacted by either one of their promoters to unify.

"All of these guys talking about unifying, well, if they really want to make it happen, all they have to do is contact us. I told Pascal that I'm from Kazakhstan, he lives in Canada; so, we should fight in the capital of boxing, Las Vegas. Same goes for Cleverly, who is from the United Kingdom.

"I'm getting ready and looking forward to a fresh New Year. Hopefully, one of the other light heavyweight world champions will put his title belt on the line against mine in a unification fight in 2012. "

Shumenov set a light heavyweight record for capturing a world title in the fewest career fights, 10, when (Jan. 29, 2010) he won a 12-round decision against Gabriel Campillo in Las Vegas. In three successful world title defenses, Shumenov won a unanimous 12-round decision versus No. 1 mandatory challenger and previously undefeated Viacheslav Uzelkov (UDEC12), followed by a six-round knockout of three-time world champion William Joppy (KO6), and then his victory in July by ninth-round TKO versus three-time world title challenger Danny Santiago.

"We keep hearing and reading about all these offers made to Beibut," noted Hall of Fame promoter Don Chargin, who serves as Shumenov's advisor. "We've only talked with Pascal, who was told that Beibut would fight him at a neutral site. I intend to reach out to Cleverly's promoter, Frank Warren, to see if they're serious about fighting a unification with Beibut. He is ready, willing and able to fight Cleverly. We won't turn down a fair deal with any of the other world champions.

"Over the years, I've worked with many different people in this business, and Beibut is an absolute joy to be with and always a pleasure. Nobody trains harder than Beibut and he's improving every day. Our goal in 2012 is to go after all of the world champions who've said they made offers to fight Beibut. We hope something happens in that respect. After Beibut makes a title defense in Las Vegas, I'd love to see him defend his title before 50,000-60,000 in Kazakhstan. Beibut will never stop trying to unify the world light heavyweight title."

LONGTIME FRIENDS AND RECENT OPPONENTS JOHNSON AND GREEN IN CRUCIAL FIGHTS SATURDAY NIGHT IN QUEBEC

New York, NY - (11/1/2011) - Glen Johnson and Allan Green have been longtime friends and sparring partners, and most recently were opponents against one another in 2010, as part of the SHOWTIME Super Six World Boxing Classic. Now, the two will enter into hostile territory together this Saturday night when they travel to Quebec City to take on two of Canada's favorite sons.

"The Road Warrior" Johnson (51-15-2, 35KO's) is set to challenge IBF Super Middleweight Champion and arguably the number one fighter at that weight class, Lucian Bute (29-0, 24KO's), in the feature bout of the evening on SHOWTIME CHAMPSIONSHIP BOXING card from the Pepsi Coliseum in Quebec City, Canada, live on SHOWTIME® (9 p.m. ET/PT, delayed on the West Coast). Fighting on the untelevised portion of the undercard will be Green (30-3, 21KO's) taking on Sebastien Demers (31-4, 11KO's) in a ten-round super middleweight showdown. The event is promoted by Interbox, DiBella Entertainment and Warriors Boxing.

Both fights are very significant, and crucial to the careers of both Johnson and Green. At 42-years-old, the former light heavyweight champion Johnson isn't getting any younger, and is 4-4 in his last eight bouts, albeit the four defeats were close decision losses coming in world championship opportunities. A win over the pound-for-pound top-rated Bute could set Johnson up for a crack at the winner of the Super Six Tournament Finale that takes place on December 17, between Andre Ward and Carl Froch.

Green, after spending much of his career struggling to cut weight, has now made the decision to move back up to the light heavyweight division, where he hopes to position himself into a world title opportunity. Before he can do that though, he must first get past Demers.
